‘Barfi!’ Catches Filmfare Fever With Most Nominations

'Barfi!', which won million's of heart's throughout the nation, has bagged the maximum number of nomination's this centenary year.

MUMBAI: Anurag Basu’s ‘Barfi!’ has been nominated for nine awards, leading the Filmfare race for the 58th Idea Filmfare Awards. The movie has been received nominations for fields of Best Actor (Male/Female) leading and supporting, Best Director, Best Film, Best Music Director, Best Lyrics, Best Playback Singer (Male) for two singers from the film.

“Picharr Shuru, Ho gayi Hai, Picharr Shuru,”  – Anurag Basu’s ‘Barfi!’ made audiences laugh, cry, love and clap. With a gem of a story line, incredible actors and a soothing background score, it is no surprise that the movie has bagged so many nominations.

After charming the audience by playing a deaf-mute Ranbir Kapoor is nominated for the Best Actor (Male) Award in a leading role. Priyanka Chopra who played the autistic Jhilmil is nominated for the Best Actor(Female) in a leading role and Ileana D’Cruz for Best Actor (Female) in a supporting role. Pritam has been nominated for the Best Music Director, Swanand Kirkire for Best Lyrics for ‘Aashiyan’. And Mohit Chauhan and Nikhil Paul George have been nominated for Best Playback Singer (Male).

Legendary director Yash Chopra’s last directorial venture, ‘Jab Tak Hai Jaan’, is a close second and tied up with Anurag Kashyap’s ‘Gangs Of Waaseypur’. Both films have completely different plots and have received five nominations each.

Shah Rukh Khan, without whom the awards are incomplete, has been nominated as the Best Actor (Male) in a leading role for playing the romantic Samar and tough Major Samar Anand. Anushka Sharma is nominated as the Best Actor (Female) in a supporting role for playing the tom-boyish Akira in the film. Rabbi nominated as the Best Playback Singer (male) for the catchy song ‘Challa’ and two nominations for Gulzar in the Best Lyrics category for ‘Challa’ and ‘Saans’ in ‘Jab Tak Hai Jaan’.

On the other hand, Anurag Kashyap received nominations for Best Film and Best Director for ‘Gangs Of Waaseypur’. Manoj Bajpai, for his flawless performance as the manic Sardar Khan, has been nominated for Best Actor (Male) in a leading role. 28-year-old Huma Qureshi who debuted with the film is nominated for Best Actor (Female) in a supporting role. And Sneha Khanwalkar nominated in the Best Music Director category.

Apart from these leading films, ‘Kahaani’ has received nomination’s for: Best Film and Best Director by Sujoy Ghosh, and Best Actor(Female) in a lead role by Vidya Balan. ‘Vicky Donor’ has received nomination’s for: Best Film and Best Director by Shoojit Sircar. Best Actor (Male) in a supporting role by Annu Kapoor. Ayushmann Khurrana the lead actor was nominated for the Best Playback Singer (Male) for his debut song ‘Pani da rang’.

Sridevi’s come-back film ‘English Vinglish’ that came after a 15-year gap has received nominations for: Best Film and Best Director by Gauri Shinde and the Best Actor (Female) in a leading role by Sridevi.
