MUMBAI: The comeback of the suave Vinod Khanna to Bollywood via Risk could not perk up the film’s collections at the box-office. The film has registered around 50 per cent plus collections, mostly in Mumbai and parts of B and C class centres. The fast paced, stylised action thriller is a film for the masses. It is nothing more than old wine in a new bottle.
The film has been distributed by the sister division of producers K Sera Sera with around 100 prints in Bombay circuit. The rest were 45 UFOs and 25 DLPs.
In Bombay, the film has evoked mixed responses – in single screens like Plaza (Dadar) which has a seating capacity of 825 persons, the film opened to daily three shows. On the opening day, it collected Rs 42,022 against a capacity of Rs 87,161.85 (48.21 per cent). In Kalpana (Kurla), the film opened to daily four shows. With a seating capacity of 1,188, on the first day, the film collected Rs 74,054 against the capacity of Rs 87, 073.60 (85.05 per cent). In Regal (Churchgate), it opened to one show (daily night show) which seats 1,178 persons and has a capacity of Rs 65, 812.55, the cinema recorded Rs 21,459 (32.06 per cent). Deepak cinema on Delisle Road, with a seating capacity of 843 collected Rs 28,182 against Rs 41,672 in four shows ( 58.03 per cent).
Interworld Digitals’ Mr Hot Mr Cool has hardly any drama to sustain it. Jaysinh Pictures Pvt Ltd, the distributors who had revived their concern, managed to release 15 prints in the Bombay circuit. The film opened to very poor response all over.
It opened at Plaza (Dadar) in the matinee show. Against the capacity of Rs 29,053.95, the film collected Rs 6,010 (20.69 per cent). In New Excelsior, the film opened at daily two shows and collected Rs 8,428 against a capacity of Rs 1,02,261 ( 8.92 per cent). It has a seating capacity of 1,101 persons. Anupam Cinema (Goregaon), which has a seating capacity of 927 seats opened in daily two shows. It collected Rs 6,193 against the capacity of Rs 37,437 (16.54 per cent).
Bhojpuri film Mayee Ke Acharva Mein Charo Dham, a tear jerker, was also released this week to average response in Bombay and some other parts of the country.
The sudden engagement announcement of star couple Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai is looked on as a bonus for Mani Ratnam’s Guru in Bombay (released by Ramesh Sippy – Rakesh Sippy, Raksha Distributors) and major metros and the overseas market.

Anwar – first week in Bombay Rs 1,77,208 from six cinemas, one cinema was on fixed hire. Opened at Ahmedabad in one cinema (daily one show) Delhi Rs 36,787 from two cinemas (10 per cent), Ghaziabad Rs 32,729 from three cinemas (12 per cent), Ran for one week in three cinemas at Hyderabad.
Game entered third combined week in Bombay at two cinemas.
