BOX OFFICE: ‘Iron Man 3’ Has An Iron-Clad Strong Weekend

Starring Robert Downey Jr and Gwyneth Paltrow 'Iron Man 3' continued on a strong footing over the opening weekend in India.

MUMBAI: Marvel Studios and Walt Disney Studios’ ‘Iron Man 3’, directed by Shane Black; Starring Robert Downey Jr, Gwyneth Paltrow, Don Cheadle, Guy Pearce, Jon Favreau and Ben Kingsley, continued on a strong footing over the opening weekend in India.

The film, which is based on the comic book by Marvel, has had an incredible opening weekend in India, trumping other films on offer over the weekend, including the much-hyped Bollywood film ‘Aashiqui 2’.

As reported, on Day 1 figures, ‘Iron Man 3’ accumulated collections in the range of Rs 77.3 million (7.73 crore) net. This was the second highest box office figure for a Hollywood film in India, after ‘Amazing Spider Man’ in 2012, which had generated close to Rs 90 million (9 crore) on it’s opening day.

On Day 2 and Day 3, ‘Iron Man 3’ did big business of about Rs 80 million (8 crore) net and Rs 83.5 million (8.35 crore) net, both astounding figures. The 3 day total of the film stands at approximately Rs 240.8 million (Rs 24.08 crore) net.

Like on Day 1, during the weekend too, the film did better business in multiplexes across metros like Mumbai, Bangalore and Delhi. The film is only poised to get bigger and better as word-of-mouth spreads, and draws more people into the theatres over the coming week.
