MUMBAI: Ajay Devgn Ffilms’ ‘Son Of Sardaar’ directed by Ashwni Dhir, starring Ajay Devgn, Sanjay Dutt, Juhi Chawla and Sonakshi Sinha, has had a good run at the box-office since its release on 13 November, 2012.

The film opened on a Tuesday with an adequate Rs 107.5 million (Rs 10.75 crore) net approximately. A remake of S. S. Rajamouli’s Telugu movie ‘Maryada Ramanna’ (which in itself was a remake of the 1923 American ‘Our Hospitality’), SOS scored higher in Central India, Delhi, and Punjab region due to the decidedly ‘Sardar’ flavour.

By Thursday, the 3-day total of the film was in the range of Rs 390 million (Rs 39 crore) net. Even though the reviews for the film were lousy, the comic caper managed to draw in a fair share of cine-goers.

The boost can also be attributed to ‘box office favourite’: Salman Khan’s cameo performance in the ‘Po Po’ song and the fact that ‘Dabangg 2’ trailer was attached with ‘Son Of Sardaar’.

Friday maintained pace taking the 4-day total close to the Rs 500 million (Rs 50 crore) net figure.

However, the extended weekend of Saturday and Sunday took a hit with Maharashtra observing a Bandh on account of the death of politician Bal Thackeray.

Even though the adverse impact of the Bandh was lower on ‘Son of Sardaar’ as compared to ‘Jab Tak Hai Jaan’ (because for SOS the majority of the business still came from the northern belt of India) the SRK-starrer JTHJ is still faring better at the box office. SEE REPORT

The 6 day total of ‘Son Of Sardaar’ currently stands at Rs 650 million (Rs 65 crore) net.
