MUMBAI: Eros International’s ‘English Vinglish’ directed by debutante Gauri Shinde – starring Sridevi, French star Mehdi Nebbou, Adil Hussain, Priya Anand and Bollywood megastar Amitabh Bachchan (in a special appearance) has seen a decent pick up over the weekend.

As reported by businessofcinema.com, the first day of the film was quite lacklustre with an occupancy of only 25% and collections in the range of Rs 25 million (Rs 2.5 crore) net.

With fantastic reviews, the Saturday business was close to double in collections.

While on the first day, business was majorly coming from multiplexes – over the weekend even the single screens started performing better.

The highest contributors to the film’s box office have so far been Mumbai and the South Indian circuit.

Sunday also showed a steady surge, bringing the 3 day total collections of ‘English Vinglish’ to approximately Rs 130 million (13 crore) net.

For Bollywood yesteryear actress Sridevi much rests on the success of the film, since this is her comeback after a sabbatical of 15 years.

Her rendition of the beautiful but complexed Shashi has been lauded by fans and critics alike.

So, even though the the weekend box office figure is average, the upward trend and fantastic word of mouth is a positive sign for the week to come.
