Box Office: Did Sushant Singh Rajput’s Dhoni Biopic Manage To Break Salman Khan’s Sultan Opening Record

One of the much-awaited biopics of the year, M.S Dhoni-The Untold Story has finally hit the screens. The film, which sees Sushant Singh Rajput as Indian Cricketer M.S Dhoni, was much in the limelight since its inception. Dhoni’s fan following is envious and everyone was eager to witness his journey on the silver screen.

The film opened to a very good response of around 50%. The multiplexes have shown a very good amount of crowd and the first day business of the film has also been magnificent. M.S. Dhoni – The Untold Story had a huge first day business of around Rs. 20 crore nett in Hindi. Moreover, the film has turned to be the second highest opening day of the year.

The film has taken second best initial after Sultan. M.S Dhoni biopic has done better than Shah Rukh Khan’s Fan and has turned out to be second highest after Salman Khan’s Sultan in terms of occupancy. Sultan saw an opening of 70% (4350 Screens) while M.S Dhoni-The Untold Story saw an opening of 50% (3800 screens). Note: this occupancy is only of the morning shows. Otherwise, M.S. Dhoni – The Untold Story has taken the 15th highest opening of all time.

The film has earned well in Mumbai as well as in South. Being a film on Indian cricketer Dhoni, every part of the country has contributed well.  The film’s target audience is the youth which is a great benefit. Also, the film does not have any tough competition in its way which may lead to higher numbers in coming days.

M.S Dhoni-The Untold Story, which is directed by Neeraj Pandey had a huge first-day business and the film has to keep the same hold in the coming days to be a big entertainer of the year.
