Cameron’s Avatar beats Sherlock Holmes at box office; India biz at Rs 500 mn

MUMBAI: James Cameron’s mega adventure Avatar has managed to pip Sherlock Holmes at the international box office for the second week.

Avatar did a business of $ 75 million at the box office, whereas Sherlock Holmes took in $ 65 million. On the other hand, Alvin and The Chipmunks collected $ 50 million over the Christmas weekend.

Overall Avatar has done a business of $212.2 million in the US and $615.2 million worldwide till date.

In India, the movie’s 10-day collection stood at Rs 500 million (Rs 50 crore), making it the fourth biggest Hollywood movie ever in India. As was reported earlier by Businessofcinema.com, Avatar’s opening week collections in India were Rs 400 million (Rs 40 crore).
