Colors acquires multiple films’ satellite rights from Reliance BIG Pictures

MUMBAI: Viacom 18’s general entertainment channel Colors has bagged the worldwide satellite rights of a handful of films from Reliance BIG Pictures including the Hrithik Roshan-starrer Kites and the yet to release Raavan starring Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan.

Additionally, according to sources, Colors has also acquired the satellite rights of Reliance’s older movies like Luck By Chance, Rock On and forthcoming films like Break Ke Baad starring Imran Khan and Deepika Padukone, Chaloo Movie and Mirch. The size of the deal is pegged at Rs 500 million (Rs 50 crore). Colors has acquired the world satellite rights of the movie for a period of seven years.

Due to its poor performance at the box office, Kites debut on the idiot box will be much sooner than expected. The movie will be aired on the channel on 27 June in India, which is just a month after its theatrical release.

On the other hand, Colors will also air the movie in the US and UK on the same day. Produced by Rakesh Roshan’s FilmKraft Productions and released by Reliance BIG Pictures, Kites stars Barbara Mori and Kangna Ranaut alongside Hrithik.

Viacom18 chief commercial officer and head-international business Gaurav Gandhi said, “The next six to eight months are going to be a pure treat for the viewers as we plan to showcase a series of big and recent Blockbuster films. With Kites, we begin a long and potentially fruitful association with Reliance Big Pictures with whom we have signed a much larger deal and will be showcasing a whole range of popular movies from their library in the days to come.”
