Compact Disc India to ink co-prod deal with comic book cos

MUMBAI: Compact Disc India is planning to enter into a co-production deal for international animation films with two comic book companies based out of the US and Japan.

According to sources close to the development, the US based comic book company that Compact Disc India is in talks with also has deals with DreamWorks Animation and Ashok Amirtraj’s Hyde Park Entertainment. Going by this information, it is likely that Compact Disc India is in talks with US based Platinum Studios to co-produce an animation film.

Platinum Studios controls a library of more than 5,600 comic book characters which it adapts, produces & licenses for all forms of media. Both DreamWorks Animation and Hyde Park Entertainment have a deal with Platinum Studios.

While the DreamWorks Animation deal involves two movies – Atlantis Rising and Cowboys & Aliens; Hyde Park Entertainment Group and Platinum Studios have entered into an agreement for the co-production of Dead of Night based on the best-selling Italian comic book series, Dylan Dog created by Tiziano Sclavi.

Sources inform Businessofcinema.com that Compact Disc India’s second co-production deal with the Japanese comic book company involves Tommy Lee Jones. However, at the time of filing this story, the identity of the company could not be ascertained.

Additionally, Compact Disc India is also planning to adapt a book written by Noble Prize Laureate in Literature VS Naipaul into a film. Some of the fiction works of Naipaul include The Mystic Masseur, The Suffrage of Elvira, Miguel Street, A House for Mr Biswas, Mr. Stone and the Knights Companion, A Flag on the Island, The Mimic Men, In a Free State, Guerrillas, A Bend in the River, Finding the Centre, The Enigma of Arrival, A Way in the World, Half a Life and Magic Seeds.

When contacted Compact Disc India managing director Suresh Kumar declined to offer further details citing that the company will soon be making an official announcement regarding the same.
