Dev Anand’s 89th Birth Anniversary: Son Announces Navketan’s Next

MUMBAI: A day ahead of legendary actor-filmmaker Dev Anand’s 89th birth anniversary celebrations, his son Suneil announced that he will make “Vagator Mixer” under their banner of Navketan Films.

Dev Anand’s birth anniversary falls Wednesday.

“Vagator Mixer” will be an English language movie based on the theme of the famous Vagator beach in Goa, said Suneil, who has acted in films like “Anand Aur Anand”, “Main Tere Liye” and “Master”.

Navketan Films’ last movie was “Chargesheet” and it was Dev Anand’s last directorial venture before he died in London Dec 3, 2011. He was 88.

Suneil was here for the celebration, organised by Bharatiya Janata Party leader Vijay Jolly’s Delhi Study Group Tuesday.

Suniel said he will write the script, direct and play the lead role in the movie, which will be formally launched in December.

Navketan Films was founded in 1949 by Dev Anand and his elder brother Chetan. Movies like “Baazi”, “Taxi Driver”, “Funtoosh”, “Kala Pani”, “Hum Dono”, “Jewel Thief”, “Tere Ghar ke Saamne”, “Hare Rama Hare Krishna” and “Guide” were among the successful films made under the banner.

The last few movies from the production banner – “Chargesheet”, “Love at Times Square” and “Censor” didn’t do too well at the box office.
