MUMBAI: Anurag Kashyap’s Dev D, which is produced by UTV Spotboy Motion Pictures, has grosses Rs 95 million (Rs 9.50 crores) in its opening weekend in India.
The movie’s net collections stand at Rs 55 million (Rs 5.50 crores), which is barring two Indian territories.
Speaking to Businessofcinema.com, UTV Spotboy Motion Pictures CEO Vikas Bahl says, "The opening weekend numbers are still coming in and the movie has exceeded our expectations. This is despite the fact that Dev D was not listed at multiplexes on Friday due to the revenue sharing terms issue so the numbers that have come in are mostly that of Saturday and Sunday."
Bahl informs that on Monday, the movie was performing well at single screens in big citites. "On Monday, the movie has 90 per cent occupancy in some single screens in Delhi, which is really encouraging. The movie has received a good response from Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Pune and Chennai," he says.
Fun Cinemas AVP programing Bhumika Tiwari says, "The movie has opened well in some pockets like Bombay, Bangalore and Delhi, whereas in the smaller centers the opening has been decent."
The movie saw a limited release in the overseas.
