MUMBAI: Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions is planning a sequel of its blockbuster production, Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham, which had an ensemble cast of Amitabh Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan, Hrithik Roshan, Jaya Bachchan, Kajol and Kareena Kapoor.
Johar is now planning a sequel to the film, which was released in 2001, with the original star cast.
While initially Johar laughed off the idea of the sequel to the film, he revisited the idea when Bachchan gave thumbs up to the same stating, “Sequel was not only possible but also desirable and only Karan can do it.”
Johar said, “It’s a workable idea. I am no longer averse to it. It would be a bold step if I make it. It’s very strange but all the six main members of the cast are as dear to me now as they were 10 years ago when I made the film. I’m sure they’re as charged about the sequel as I am.”
Bachchan also posted on his blog about the possibility of the story saying, “It would be a story on the growth of the brothers and the problems that arise because of their independent understanding and working of the business empire of the father, a split within them and so on…”
While in 2001, the movie saw a casting coup by roping in top brass actors; 10 years down the line the scale and magnanimity of having the same actors in a film will be unparalleled.
