Mumbai: Disney Channel engaged young talent across various schools in Mumbai in its third season of My School Rocks. Participants danced to the music of Camp Rock Hindi soundtracks.
The performances put up by the Shiamak Davar Institute of Performing Arts interspersed during audition rounds motivated the schools.
Last year’s winners of this all India dance competition were the team from Chandigarh’s Delhi Public School. The winning team was choreographed by Shiamak Davar on the song Ek Hain Hum from the Disney Channel Original Movie High School Musical 2 soundtrack.
The competition gathers inspiration from this year’s Disney Channel Original Movie (DCOM), Camp Rock. This time around, the tone and flavor of the competition will mirror the underlining theme of the movie – Don’t Fit In, Stand Out!
"This initiative provides kids a unique nationwide opportunity to discover their talents and celebrate teamwork," said Walt Disney Television International (India) senior vice president and managing director Antoine Villeneuve. "Disney Channel Original Movie, Camp Rock incorporates two big themes that are a part of our content strategy that attract and engage kids — music and dance. My School Rocks guides kids to find their true identity and talent to earn the fame and adulation just the way the stars of Camp Rock do."
These city led auditions will attract more than 1000 schools across the country. Mumbai’s performances will be pitted against schools from seven other cities including Chandigarh, Ahmedabad, Lucknow, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Ludhiana and Delhi. The vignettes of these finalists’ performances would be aired on Disney Channel for viewers to vote for their favorite performance. The final winners will be selected on the basis of all India votes and Shiamak’s marks to the team. The winners will feature in a Disney Channel music video to be choreographed by the celebrity judge of this competition, Shiamak Davar.
Shiamak will choose the eight finalists representing each of these cities. The challenge for the teams is to make an impression on the judge by choreographing enthralling performances on the Camp Rock soundtrack which is hip hop, rock and freestyle.
