Eros International eyes acquisitions in regional languages

MUMBAI: Eros International, which has been aggressive on the Hindi and Tamil films acquisition front, is now eyeing films in other languages.

The company has so far invested over $200 million in 60 content deals and is looking at focusing on its strategic priorities of securing content, distributing new films, as well as monetizing its catalog. Eros anticipates further content deals including expanding beyond Hindi and Tamil to other languages and is planning to make selected acquisitions during the current financial year.

Eros is also eyeing the lucrative Eid-Diwali festival period when larger grossing theatrical films are released for television syndication deals.

On the Tamil films front, Eros International’s arm Ayngaran has already secured over 30 projects for release over the next two years. The company’s Tamil film starring Rajniknath and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, titled Enthiram (Robot) is already on floors and is being directed by Shankar.

Eros’ co-production with Rose Films Drona is slated to release on 2 October. Starring Abhishek Bachchan and Priyanka Chopra, the film is directed by Goldie Behl.

Other major releases over the next few months include Salman Khan-starrer Heroes, Subhash Ghai’s Yuvvraaj, Sujoy Ghosh’s Aladin and the Shah Rukh Khan-starrer Billo Barber.
