MUMBAI: Since ‘Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge’ (DDLJ) released in 1995, it made everyone involved in it famous. Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol became household names as director Aditya Chopra gave India one of its most famous romantic stories.

As everyone must be knowing by now, Shah Rukh Khan’s latest film ‘Chennai Express’ shares a lot of similarities with ‘Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge’. So it doesn’t come as much as a surprise when, while promoting ‘Chennai Express’ recently, Shah Rukh Khan made a trip to Maratha Mandir theater in Central Mumbai.

The theater has been running ‘Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge’ since the time of its release in 1995 – an eighteen-year stretch!

Shah Rukh Khan later spoke about one of his unfulfilled wishes, which included ‘Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge’.

Shah Rukh Khan said, “Actually, humari bahut tamanna thi ki, ‘Dilwale’ jo hai, woh main, Yashji, aur Kajol jo hai, woh hum jaake dekhe, Maratha mandir mein. Toh woh tamanna adhuri reh gayi.” (Actually, we had a wish that Yashji, Kajol and I wanted to watch ‘Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge’ together in Maratha Mandir. But that wish has remained unfulfilled now.)

Unfortunately, before this plan could come to fruition, the legendary Yash Chopra, the producer of the film and the father of Aditya Chopra, passed away last year and this is one wish Shah Rukh Khan can never have fulfilled.

It surely would have been something of a perfect moment, for the trio to watch one of their most famous collaborations together on the big screen again, that too in a theater like Maratha Mandir, which is as old-world charm as the romance in ‘Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge’ gets.
