Film Review: Main Tera Hero – Varun Dhawan’s Graduation Film

Main Tera Hero MainHow Many Of The Following Do You Answer With ‘Yes’?

Are you eighteen (or under)?

Did you love Student Of the Year?

Did you feel Varun Dhawan is hotter than Sidharth Malhotra?

Do you swoon when boys show off six-packs and dance, sing, romance, fight and ride motorbikes?

Do you find Rajpal Yadav mildly amusing?

Have you seen any of Arunoday Singh’s previous films (Sikandar, Mirch, Yeh Saali Zindagi or Aisha)?

Would you say Nargis Fakhri’s clear lack of acting chops is irrelevant because she’s so hot and wears such a ‘key-oooot’ pink dress?

If You Answered Mostly ‘Yes’, Then Main Tera Hero Is A Movie Designed Especially For You.

Since I answered ‘Yes’ to only two of the above, I am clearly not the target audience. I found Main Tera Hero to be juvenile and too deliberately crafted a solo vehicle for Varun Dhawan. Daddy David Dhawan employs all his favoured leave-your-brains-at-home tools in this supposed comedy. Logic is superfluous.

Varun, all too aware of the camera and of presenting himself as a HERO, hardly ever blends into the scene. From his impressively immaculate hairdos to the backpack he never takes off, from the way he singlehandedly bashes up goons and woos the popular girl on campus, Seenu is a rebel whose only cause seems to be to find an excuse to take his shirt off and show off his abs!

His aspiration to gain a college degree is swiftly set aside when he falls for Sunaina (Ileana D’Cruz) who is being tormented and stalked by the local policeman Angad (Arunoday Singh).

But just when Seenu seems to be getting one-over on Angad and winning over Sunaina, kahaani mein twist comes in the shapely form of Ayesha (Nargis Fakhri), the pampered daughter of a Bangkok based Don (Anupam Kher).

Somehow all these characters end up in the palatial mansion of the goon, including Angad and his sidekick Peter (Rajpal Yadav) who keeps leaping into Angad’s arms!

A riot of colours, a surfeit of songs, a bad guy, a comic guy, a moll, a right hand man paralysed and relegated to a wheelchair (done much better in Singh is Kinng) and a series of puns, this is textbook David Dhawan (and team).

The Last Question Then Is: Did you like his films before?

My Answer To That Question: Is obvious isn’t it?
