MUMBAI: The Films Division, which produced a total of 24 documentaries, short fiction and video films during April – December 2006, has earned a total revenue of Rs 39.86 million (Rs 3.98 crore) during the period.
Of these, 22 films were produced departmentally and two films through independent producers. The Division released 9791 prints of 39 films in the theatrical circuits from 1 April to 30 November 2006, says a release.
A total of 188 informative and educative films have been digitised, 480 films transferred on High Definition tapes and 825 films transferred on international tracks (transferred on DVD) during this period, the release adds.
Among the films produced were biographical films on personalities such as Dr Ram Manohar Lohia, filmmaker B R Chopra, the Dagar Brothers and composer Salil Chowdhury.
Another 10 biographical films, that are currently under production, are being themed on these personalities – Pt Ram Narayan, Husnalal Bhagatram, Late K R Narayanan – Former President of India, Sankaradeva – A life larger than life (films on Sankaradeva – a multifarious genius of 15th century from Assam, Gopal Swaroop Pathak, Satguru Ramsinghji and Kuka Movement, Mubarak Begum, Naushad Ali, Rajashree Bhagyachandra of Manipur and Pt Shiv Kumar Sharma.
