MUMBAI: After the long four day weekend, a fire in Mumbai’s Infinity Mall situated in Versova on Monday evening, has resulted in the closure of the entire mall, which also houses Cinemax’s prime property Cinemax Versova.
At the time of filing this report, the reason for the fire could not be ascertained. The fire is said to have started around 7.30 – 8 pm. A total of 16 shows were cancelled. Patrons who were asked to vacate the theatre at the time of fire were told to retain their tickets, which they could use on a later day. Due to the cancellation of the late evening and night shows a loss of Rs 100,000 would be incurred to Cinemax.
No damage was caused to Cinemax’s screens.
According to information available with Businessofcinema.com, the fire apparently started in the Reebok showroom situated in the mall.
While Cinemax’s property wasn’t damaged, the evening screenings in its six screens were stalled after the news of the fire. The Versova property has a seating capacity of 1575 and was airing movies like Kidnap, Drona, Ramchand Pakistani, Hellboy 2 and Flashbacks of a Fool amongst others. This property is situated at a prime location, which also houses other multiplex chains like Fame Adlabs and Fun Cinemas.
Cinemax is likely to resume its screenings from tomorrow morning.
