Frameboxx, CG Tantra conduct animation event Treasureboxx

Mumbai: The two-day animation event, Treasureboxx 2008, opened at Chandigarh on 12 July, at the Government Museum and Art Gallery with the screening of the Oscar winner, The Golden Compass, and behind-the-scene work done by the animation team of Rhythm & Hues in US and India.

Rhythm & Hues opened its operations at Mumbai seven years back and have now added another studio setup in Hyderabad, informed Mandeep Singh, who heads the Lighting and Compositing team at Hyderabad.

Singh informed that 150 Indian animators and visual effects artists out of a total team of 500 CG artists, worked on this $180 million production, The Golden Compass, which worked on 800 shots right from character designing to special effects, compositing, lighting, etc.

Vice president Aijaz Rashid and Kunaal Saigal of Prime Focus, showcased some of their best advertising creations and the extensive use of computer generated special effects in TV commercials for Bajaj, Sony Viao, Happy Dent, Himalayan mineral water, Haathi Cement, Emco batteries, Fevicol, etc., besides demonstrating the amount of work that goes on the computers to create stunning effects.

Mitul Patel of BR Films introduced the viewers to the computer generated visual effects in Amitabh Bachchan starrer, Bhoothnath.

Speaking on the occasion, event co-organisers CG Tantra Chandan and Abhishek Chandra remarked that animation is the emerging field which is exciting and most satisfying, in which the Indian animators are already doing wonders.

Frameboxx Animation and Visual Effects executive director and COO Naveen Gupta said that the looking at the growing need for studio-ready professionals in the animation studios in the country today, Frameboxx has set up special incubation centre in Mumbai to give opportunities to best students to work on live projects.

BIG Animation studio made a presentation on the making of Little Krishna, while Tata Elxis Ltd-VCL team demonstrated animation projects like Minna & Pappu, Panchtantra, Three Bears, Nut Cracker, etc., and independent film maker Uttam Pal Singh from Mumbai, shall be sharing his creation like Channel [V] Gyan, Santa Banta, Sherwood, Krazy Keeda etc.
