‘I am not the stepmom’ declares Kajol

MUMBAI: Here is an actress who gave up her career in its heights for home, hearth and family. And this has been not once, but twice. Kajol is pregnant and is expecting her second child and the actress is over the moon. But before that, it’s time to talk about her next release, which is as yet untitled and is a Hindi remake of the Hollywood film Stepmom. The Dharma Productions’ movie is directed by Siddharth Malhotra and also stars Kareena Kapoor and Arjun Rampal.

Kajol tells Businessofcinema.com, "I am not the step mom in the film. I am the good mother. After all, how can I not be," and the last line was added with a naughty twinkle in her eye. On the same note, she continues, "The film gave me a scope to do something other than a love interest of the hero. The story is poignant and will touch the hearts. The range of emotions that the character had to project is fabulous and the subject is so different, that it would have been foolish for me to have refused this offer."

Talking about motherhood and Nysa, her first born, Kajol admitted, "I am yet to cut the umbilical chord with Nysa. I am extremely dependant on her and very protective. But Nysa is not so dependant. She does her own things and in her own manner. I am the one who is constantly fussing around her."

Kajol will now take a healthy break from tinsel town specially after the promotional campaign of her last film. Kajol’s pairing with Shah Rukh Khan for Karan Johar’s My Name is Khan saw the actress on a whirlwind tour of promotions. From America to the United Kingdom, to hurried press conferences in India to a premiere in Abu Dhabi, followed by a special screening at the Berlin Film Festival, Kajol was everywhere trying to keep pace with the hectic schedule. And she said, "I don’t know how people do it, I find it very exhausting. Inspite of all the luxury provided while traveling and the best of hospitality, the grind of meeting people and talking about your film, is too much for me."

Now the actress is busy with planning for her daughter’s birthday and then it will be back to her knitting needles to create tiny mittens for her baby, something that Kajol would do any day than shoot for a film.
