After dabbling in the modeling industry for a few years, actor Sonu Sood got his first feature film break down South. Sood worked in those films which took care of his kitchen and kept him going for a movie hunt in Bollywood.

Yuva followed by Aashiq Banaya Aapne three years ago, this year the actor has been a part of some esteemed projects like Jodhaa Akbar and Singh Is Kinng. Now he finally has his first solo hero film releasing with Rajshri in which he essays Prem’s character.

Your first solo hero film Ek Vivaah Aisa Bhi is up for release in November…
Yes, Ek Vivaah Aisa Bhi is my first solo lead film and it is a big responsibility because this is a Rajshri production. My other releases this year Jodhaa Akbar and Singh Is Kinng has faired well and I hope to achieve a hat trick with Ek Vivaah Aisa Bhi. The film looks good and after this I have Dhoondte Reh Jaoge with UTV, which will release in December.

How did this offer with Rajshri come through?
I was in Punjab when I got a call from Rajshri. Fifteen days later a meeting was scheduled and I was at their office. I loved the film in the first narration itself. It’s a known fact that they work with a clear vision which I myself experienced at the office. Soorajji showed me a file on Prem as to how he dresses, walks, his mannerisms etc. So working with a team like this is always a dream come true.

You haven’t played a romantic hero role before this; did you have any apprehensions to play this role?
It felt good to know that people actually think that I can do justice to a romantic character. Moreover I relate a lot with the characteristics of Prem. I have always dreamt of playing Prem in a Rajshri film. I did not have any apprehension because the audience is already aware of Prem’s character. Also it was a challenge for me to play Prem as I had to live up to this character’s reputation and everyone’s expectations.

Since the character of Prem is well established already, what kind of inputs were you able to put in from your end?
Even I had the same question in mind that after actors like Salman Khan and Shahid Kapur have enacted this role – How will I be able to add to the character? So I tried to give my inputs to Kaushik and Sooraj ji that I will add a few comic punches and one- liners and they were convinced about it.

Post this, what kind of films are you looking at working on?
I am not signing any films right now. I want to wait for the release of Ek Vivaah Aisa Bhi and Dhoondte Reh Jaoge and I want to see the response I get for these films, before I sign any other movie.
