MUMBAI: Eros International’s Love Aaj Kal has taken a gross opening of Rs 620 million worldwide.
In India, the movie has grossed Rs 470 million (Rs 47 crore) in its opening weekend, which nets to approximately Rs 270 million (Rs 27 crore). It may be recalled that Businessofcinema.com was the first to report on Saturday, that the India net collections of Love Aaj Kal’s opening weekend was estimated to be the same with the opening day net collections standing at Rs 80 million (Rs 8 crore).
Eros International senior vice president distribution Nandu Ahuja said, "We are thrilled with the audience as well as critics’ reactions to Love Aaj Kal. Being one of most anticipated releases this year, the film has opened to a stupendous response with packed shows across the country. As a distribution strategy we went out with more multiplex screens rather than single screens for Love Aaj Kal as we knew it would fare well with those audiences."
Love Aaj Kal is directed by Imtiaz Ali and stars Saif Ali Khan and Deepika Padukone. It was released across 1800 plus screens worldwide on 31 July 2009.
