JODHPUR: As recently revealed, British supermodel Naomi Campbell who arrived at Jodhpur Airport on November 4, 2012 for the 50th birthday celebrations of her billionaire boyfriend Vladimir Doronin, threw the ‘party of the century’, or at least hoped she did!

The model and her beau who had planned an elaborate four day program were put up at the Umaid Bhawan Palace, since they arrived last weekend.

With a view to ‘experience’ the whole Indian way of celebrating, the couple chose the historic Mehrangarh Fort to kick start the birthday bash. No expense was spared. From Rajasthani decor, to folk dances and Rajasthani cuisine: the whole experience was traditional and rustic.

The guests, close to 150, were treated to authentic mouth watering delicacies like kair-sangri, bajra-roti, dal fry, kadhi, mix vegetable, lal maas, tava roti prepared by over two dozen renowned chefs. An insider said, “There were about 18 different kinds of Rajasthani dishes for the celebrities apart from several other dishes and drinks.”

Many areas within the fort were dressed up for the occasion on Campbell’s demand. Jaipol, Dedh Kangra Pol, Imarati Pol, Suraj Pol, Loha Pol were given a gorgeous look with Rajasthani paintings, handicraft items and other heritage items.

The main area – Daulat Khana was entirely lit up with royal oil lanterns and lamps rather then electrical lights. The high profile guests were seated on special Rajasthani beds called ‘macha’.

Turning ‘desi’, Naomi wore a glamorous purple-pink lehenga-choli created by designer Manav Gangwani with heavy gold ornaments including a ‘maang tika’. “Dreams do come true. No one has made my clothes look so good. Love you Naomi and Vlad,” Gangwani tweeted.

Sophie Choudry, who attended the party Tuesday, tweeted: “Amazing nite!! Naomi & Vlad looked incredible in MG (Manav Gangwani creation).”

Campbell had also planned an elephant polo match for her guests entertainment. However, on the opposition PETA and the Animal Welfare Board of India (AWBI) it was cancelled.
