Karan Johar is keeping the anticipation up for his future projects by announcing the release dates of ‘2 States’ and ‘Hasee Toh Phasee.’Karan Johar is one of the most esteemed filmmakers Bollywood has today, he is one director who has made his audiences cry, laugh, sing and dance to his film’s tunes.

Born on 25 May, 1972, Karan Johar turns 42 today.

Emotionally charged, melodramatic and sometimes over the top glossy films is Karan Johar aka Kjo‘s forte. Critics love him for his sense of film-making and his movies are some of Bollywood’s highest grossing films at Indian as well as overseas.

Kjo was born in Mumbai to Bollywood’s film producer Yash Johar, founder of Dharma Productions and Hiroo Johar. Dharma Productions is known to make some phenomenal movies in Bollywood one of which include Amitabh Bachchan starrer Agneepath. The film was a classic in itself and that was the magic of Yash Johar. Acquiring the position of head of Dharma Productions after his father’s death in 2003, Kjo has undoubtedly carried the alchemy of his father and has given his prodigious contribution to the Indian film fraternity.

Known to be the illustrious film makers of today, Karan made his entry into Bollywood as an actor portraying Shah Rukh Khan‘s close friend in Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge in 1995. The movie also featured Kajol, Amrish Puri, Anupan Kher and Fareeda Jalal, the film was directed by Aditya Chopra and is one of the topped grossed films of Bollywood till date.

In 1998, Kjo debuted as director at the age of 25 and stunned everyone with Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, the film starred Shah Rukh Khan his all time best friend and Kajol. The film won eight FilmFare Awards and was one of the highest grosser in India as well as abroad. Later Kjo directed Kabhie Khushi Kabhie Ghum, starring Amitabh Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol, Hrithik Roshan and Kareena Kapoor Khan, the movie was ultra glossy and it was Kjo’s wish to cast all the leading stars of Bollywood in one film.

Later Kjo focused more on script writing and screenplay, he then directed his third film Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna, the film received mixed reviews because its subject dealt with adultery but it was one of India’s highest grosser of all time in abroad.

In 2009, departing himself from his typical kind of film-making such as using lavish sets, filmi songs, dance sequences and designer clothes Kjo came up with My Name Is Khan reuniting the very famous on-screen couple SRK and Kajol. The film earned Karan Johar huge accolades- it was diametrically opposite to what Karan did in his past.

Kjo always has been in support of young talent by producing films like Ekk Main Aur Ekk Tu, I Hate Love Stories, Wake Up Sid and not to forget Student Of The Year, Karan has always given way to stardusts of Bollywood. Karan Johar undoubtedly has a multi-faceted personality and he wears many hats that of director, producer, screenwriter, costume designer and stylist. He is known to style his best friend SRK in many of his films. Karan Johar is also the host of a very famous celebrity chat show Koffee With Karan. The reality chat show is a huge success in India and also abroad.

Karan Johar is often called the king of super-surreal, picture-perfect world cinema, where actors saunter around in designer clothes in exotic locales all over the globe and tell dramatic stories weaved around raw emotions like friendship, love and kinship with the much needed naach gaana added of course.

Nevertheless, Kjo‘s standing in B-town as a commercially successful filmmaker is certainly enviable and we wish the supremely talented filmmaker a very Happy Birthday!
