MUMBAI: Pankaj Parashar, director of films like Jalwa, Chaalbaaz and Tumko Na Bhool Payenge, is planning a comeback of sorts. The filmmaker who has been in hibernation since his last venture Banaras that released a couple of years back, is now all set to grab the director’s baton.
Parashar’s film will be produced by Sunil Manchanda under the banner of MAD Films. The duo has a record of directing as many as 1500 commercials between them.
Parashar is currently planning a comic caper titled Cocktail. Speaking to Businessofcinema.com, Parashar said, "My cast will be finalized in the coming three weeks. It will be a madcap comedy and the mother of all mix-ups."
Not just a prolific ad film maker, Parashar has given breaks to some of the biggest film makers of our country. Sanjay Gupta, who is a big name today with films like Kaante, Musafir, Zinda and Dus Kahaniyaan, was the costume boy for Parashar’s Jalwa. Anubhav Sinha (Dus, Cash) started off as an assistant to the TV series Karamchand. And not many might know but Farhan Akhtar was the third assistant director to Parashar’s Himalayputra.
So will there be something new in his Cocktail ? "For sure you can expect something fresh. Each of my films has been different from the other. I love experimenting with cinematic style. People talk of technical innovation today but I had attempted jump cuts and hand-held camera movements way back when I was filming Jalwa in the 80s. The promo-cutting pattern of my film Rajkumar (Anil Kapoor – Madhuri Dixit) is still remembered today. Be assured you will get to see something new in Cocktail," guarantees Parashar.
