MUMBAI: Music maestro AR Rahman is shining bright in the ad world post his double whammy at this year’s Oscars for Slumdog Millionaire. Rahman has reportedly been signed by Motorola as its global brand ambassador.

Rahman will replace football star David Beckham, who has been endorsing Motorola as its global brand ambassador. As per media reports, the brand has dished out a whopping Rs 280 million (Rs 28 crores) to Rahman for the endorsement deal.

In India, actor Abhishek Bachchan currently endorses Motorola. The brand also associated with Bachchan’s latest film release Delhi 6 as an in-film placement. It remains to be seen whether this global endorsement deal will see Rahman replacing Bachchan in India too as the brand ambassador or whether the brand brings the two together for an India centric ad campaign in the near future.

It may be recalled that late last year, Rahman had teamed up with Motorola’s competitor Nokia to launch a music album called Nokia Connections for the brand’s XpressMusic devices. Pertinent to note here is that Motorola has a range of music phones under the MotoROKR brand name. It will be interesting to see how Motorola leverages Rahman’s position in the music space to take its brand a notch higher.

Rahman currently endorses cellphone service provider Airtel in India and has also composed the signature tune for the brand.
