Mrs. Doubtfire Starring Robin Williams Is Set For A Sequel

Mrs.Doubtfire SequelWell a sequel to the 1993 Robin Williams and Sally Field’s starrer Mrs. Doubtfire is reportedly in the works. Fox 2000 is developing the project, which would reunite Williams with director Chris Columbus. The script is by David Berenbaum, who wrote the 2003 Will Ferrell comedy Elf.

Mrs. Doubtfire starred Robin Williams as a divorced father who attempts to spend time with children by dressing in drag and adopting the persona of Euphegenia Doubtfire, a Scottish nanny. The movie became a $219 million hit and remains an enduring family favorite.

While some fans have been intrigued by the idea, Mara Wilson, now twenty six, who played one of Robin Williams children in the original, has already tweeted that she wants no part of the movie. “I do not have anything to do with the Mrs. Doubtfire sequel, nor will I. I think Mrs. Doubtfire ended where it needed to end.” she twitted.

Mara Wilson hasn’t acted for years, and she isn’t going to change her mind for the planned sequel to Mrs. Doubtfire. The former actress, who was a six year old newcomer when the comedy was released in 1993, responded to the news of an impending sequel with some valid questions.

Mara Wilson’s disinterest isn’t because she has a problem with the first film, it’s just that she doesn’t see how the story could continue.

“I’m glad I had the chance to be in it, and I’m proud of what we did, but I don’t see how we could do it again. I loved being in Mrs. Doubtfire, and I’m grateful every day I had that experience. I met my sister for life Lisa there. I had a great time. But I don’t think a sequel makes sense plot wise, and I don’t think there’d be a part for me even if I did still act and was interested.” wrote Mara on twitter.

Coming to Robin Williams, well he was in his forties when Mrs. Doubtfire was released. He’s now sixty two, which means that his cross-dressed character may not look the way she once did. Then again, make-up has improved so much that Johnny Knoxville, hoodwinked people into thinking he was an eight six year old in Bad Grandpa.

What do you think? Would you still be interested in Mrs. Doubtfire 2?
