Multiplexes mum on revenue sharing terms

MUMBAI: The multiplexes have finally agreed to screen Lage Raho Munnabhai. However, they are tightlipped on the issue of revenue sharing. The print reached most multiplexes on Friday morning, just in time for the morning show that begins between 10.30 – 11 am.

Notwithstanding this, Cinemax Versova was unable to hold its morning matinee show. Cinemax general manager marketing Devang Sampat informs, “The first show at Cinemax Versova was held at 1 pm for which the response was only 30 – 35 per cent.”

During the release of Fanaa, Inox and Fun Republic multiplexes had not screened the film. But this time around Inox worked out the terms before the decision of the Multiplex Owners Association.

“At Inox the prints of Lage Raho Munnabhai arrived this morning so there has been no publicity of the film. The opening of the morning show at Inox Nashik is 50 per cent and at Inox Jaipur is 75 per cent,” informs Inox programming head Neeraj Goswami. However, he prefers not to disclose the terms of the agreement, asserting that it is confidential.

Fun Republic general manager marketing Vishal Anand adds, “The response for the morning show on Friday is reasonably good but it’s not houseful. But as I speak with you, the opening for the Friday evening show is already 70 per cent so I can hope for the show to be houseful.”

While Fun Republic and Inox have not disclosed their revenue sharing terms, Cinemax’ Sampat revealed that the revenue share with Cinemax was yet to be finalized. “Depending on the collections of the film, the revenue will be finalized after a few days.”
