Naseer–Shabana together in Dus Kahaniyaan

MUMBAI: After a gap of 18 years, two of the most accomplished actors of Indian cinema Naseeruddin Shah and Shabana Azmi are working together in a 10 minutes short film Rice Plate directed by Rohit Roy in Sanjay Gupta’s Dus Kahaniyaan.

Rice Plate illustrates the touchy topic of the communal divide in Mumbai. Shabana, who plays an orthodox Tamil Brahmin in Rice Plate, has undergone a complete transformation to get her Tamilian accent, tone and gait right. However this isn’t the first time she plays a Tamilian, having played such a role in Mahesh Dattani’s Morning Raga. Whereas, Naseer plays a Muslim man. The film is about a life-changing chance encounter between these two strangers from totally different cultural zones.

The duo come together after acting in movies like Paar, Sparsh and Masoom.
