Pakistan lifts bans on Bollywood films

MUMBAI: The Pakistan government has given the green signal for the Akshay Kumar starrer Welcome to screen in the country’s theatres. This thus ends the 43 year old ban on screening of Indian films in the country.

The film’s release in Pakistan theatres comes after a Pakistan Senate standing committee on culture had recommended to the government to allow screening of Indian films under a proper censorship policy last month. The ban on Bollywood movies was imposed in 1965 after the India-Pakistan war.

In the past some films like Taj Mahal – An Eternal Love Story, Mughal-e-Azam and Awarapan have also been screened in Pakistan. However, these have been on-off cases.

Some other recent Indian movies that are being screened in Pakistan are Dhan Dhana Dhan Goal and Gangster.
