Pankaj Kapur teams up with Vishal Bhardwaj again

MUMBAI: Now that Pankaj Kapur is almost out of his directorial commitment Mausam, he’s finally looking at his acting career again.

To no one’s surprise, Kapur has given the nod to Vishal Bhardwaj’s next where he shares screen space with Ajay Devgn and Anushka Sharma.

The film to be produced jointly by Devgn and Kumar Mangat is based on a short story.

A source tells Businessofcinema.com, “Pankaj Kapur is one of Vishal Bhardwaj’s favourite actors. They had done two very important films The Blue Umbrella and Maqbool together. Vishal kept imploring Pankaj that they should get together for another film.”

Kapur, who selects films very rarely, assured Bhardwaj he would love to work with him. But only after Mausam was complete.

Now that Mausam is done, Bhardwaj again approached Kapur with an extremely important role in his film.

Kapur agreed to be in the film, because he was very familiar with the material.

The source adds, “Interestingly it was Pankaj who suggested Vishal make this film. Pankaj told Vishal about a short story, which Vishal immediately liked. So Pankaj is quite happy with the film and his role.”

The last film that Kapur had signed was Bhavna Talwar’s Happi more than a year-and-a-half ago.

In 2007 Kapur had a very powerful role with Ajay Devgn in Raj Kumar Santoshi’s Halla Bol. Devgn apparently was very keen to have Kapur in this new project.
