BARCELONA: Internationally renowned pop singer and dancer Shakira who is expecting her first child with soccer star boyfriend Gerard Pique of FC Barcelona, recently had a virtual baby shower in association with UNICEF.
Shakira, the Goodwill ambassador of UNICEF posted a baby shower invitation on Twitter asking fans to donate essential items to children living in poor countries instead of baby gifts for their son.
The heavily pregnant Columbian singer alongwith her beau Gerard Pique encouraged fans to purchase essential baby gifts like $5 mosquito nets, $10 dollars worth of vaccines, $110 worth of supplementary food and baby weighing scales to benefit children in the poorest parts of the world.
The UNICEF unveiled beautiful images of Shakira showing off her baby bump. In one snapshot, Shakira was dressed in a bikini top and loose pants, while boyfriend Pique went shirtless, posing intimately. In the other, the 35 year old Latino singer is dressed in a beautiful white gown with her hair tousled.
The visitors of the online shower were greeted by a personal message from the couple, “As you all know, we will soon be welcoming our first child into the world, and to celebrate his birth we’ve organized a virtual baby shower in association with UNICEF. In lieu of receiving gifts for our baby as with a traditional shower we would like to offer support for babies who live in conditions of extreme poverty throughout the world.”
Explaining this unique baby shower, the singer said, “Every expectant parent around the world shares all the same hopes and dreams for their children that we do. Yet many don’t share the same opportunities. Together we know we can change that.”
Shakira’s due date hasn’t been revealed to the public yet.
