MUMBAI: Our photographers spotted the bigwigs from Bollywood, notables from the cricketing fraternity and Mumbai’s socialites turn up in full strength at the felicitation for cricketing legend Sunil Gavaskar.

The felicitation was held Saturday. Ulysse Nardin launched an exclusive limited edition collection of 34 watches in Gavaskar’s honour. As a salute to the exceptional batsman and world renowned fast bowler, close friend and Bollywood Megastar Amitabh Bachchan unveiled the Sunil Gavaskar Limited Edition Collection. These 34 watches symbolized the 34 centuries made by the iconic sports star and each watch has the name of the city where the century was made, engraved on it.

Big B describes the ex- ace cricketer Sunil Gavaskar as one of the most entertaining people ever and says he is the pride of India. “Just had the great honour of felicitating dear friend and sporting icon, Sunil Gasvakar… A great son of India… Privileged,” the 70-year-old actor tweeted.

“Sunil Gavaskar as gracious and as entertaining as ever. He is a great mimic among many other special attributes he possesses, and had the entire audience in splits,” he added.

Amitabh says Gavaskar is one of the few people who have never failed to wish him on his birthday.

“The one matter that has remained constant with him is his phone call on my birthday each year. And this has gone on for more than almost 30 years. Irrespective of where he may be, in which part of the world, that phone call always comes,” wrote Big B.

Others spotted at the felicitation ceremony were: son Abhishek Bachchan, Nita Ambani, Arti Surendranath, Adi Godrej, Cricketers Yuvraj Singh, Ajit Agarkar, and Kapial Dev, Bollywood filmmaker Subhash Ghai, actresses Gayatri Joshi, Sonali Bendre with Goldie Behl. Both the father and son duo looked sharp. Abhishek opted for a slate gray suit and father Amitabh Bachchan wore a dark black suit.

“Couple of years from now I would complete 25 years since I retired from the game, and to be remembered almost 25 years later is overwhelming. It is a true honour to represent India,” said Gavaskar. The hosts of the evening were Chhaya Momaya, Patrick Hoffman, CEO, Ulysse Nardin, Sunder Chainani, chairman, Swiss Promotion Pvt Ltd, Haresh Chainani, and Nitin Chainani.
