LOS ANGELES: Business Of Cinema had earlier reported that Pixar, now owned by Disney has cut down on its sequels and are focusing on creating more original content. (Read STORY).
But there is more disappointment for all the lovers of animated films. The celebrated animated studio Pixar is not going to have a release in 2014. They have also shifted the releases of the two most awaited films to 2015 and 2016 respectively.
‘The Good Dinosaur’, which was initially set to release on June 2014, has now been shifted to 25 November 2015.
The date was initially reserved for another Pixar venture, ‘Finding Dory’, a sequel to the loved ‘Finding Nemo’. But now ‘Finding Dory’ will release on 17 June 2016.
There were rumours that Pixar is going through some issues and with Bob Peterson’s exit from ‘The Good Dinosaur’, it is confirmed that Pixar is battling a few problems.
While Pixar president Ed Catmull has said, “Nobody remembers the fact you slipped a film, but they will remember a bad film. Our conclusion was that we were going to give ‘The Good Dinosaur’ more time.”
This is the first time since 2005 that Pixar isn’t having a release during a specific year.
With Pixar battling its own share of problems, will audiences shift their loyalty to DreamWorks Animation? The studio has ‘Mr. Peabody and Sherman’ and ‘How To Train Your Dragon 2’ up for release in 2014.
With two interesting films lined up for release from DreamWorks and Pixar not having a release in 2014, the animation industry may well be headed for a sea change.
