MUMBAI: Bollywood star Priyanka Chopra who was much appreciated both nationally and internationally for her splendid performance as Jhilmil – the autistic girl in ‘Barfi!’, says she is disappointed that the film did not receive any appreciation at the 60th National Awards.
At almost all the other film awards, this year, the Priyanka Chopra, Ranbir Kapoor and Ileana D’Cruz starrer ‘Barfi!’ directed by Anurag Basu bagged acclaim in abundance.
“I am feeling bad that ‘Barfi!’ did not win a National Award. But then it is up to the jury why they did not give the award,” shared Priyanka at the launch of her first item song ‘Babli Badmaash’ for Sanjay Gupta’s ‘Shootout At Wadala’.
Anurag Basu’s ‘Barfi!’ is a story of three young people, who learn that love can neither be defined nor contained by society’s norms of normal and abnormal. Ranbir Kapoor played the role of a deaf and mute boy and Priyanka Chopra played an autistic girl.
‘Barfi!’ received thirteen nominations at the 58th Filmfare Awards, winning seven – including Best Film, Best Actor and Best Music Director.
Priyanka, however, said that she is extremely happy for her cousin, actress Parineeti Chopra, who won a special mention at the National Awards for her role in ‘Ishaqzaade’.
“I am happy for her. Now, in the Chopra family, there are two National Awards. The whole day I had to explain what special mention means!”
Priyanka who played a super model in Madhur Bhandarkar’s ‘Fashion’ won a National Award for Best Actress in 2008 for her flawless performance justifying the strong character she played.
