Priyanka Chopra’s ‘Zanjeer 2.0’ Runs Into Legal Trouble Again

Little did Bollywood beauty Priyanka Chopra know that her trip to Hyderabad would be marred by controversy surrounding the Hindi and Telugu remakes of the 1973 super hit film ‘Zanjeer’.

MUMBAI: Little did Bollywood beauty Priyanka Chopra know that her trip to Hyderabad would be marred by controversy surrounding the Hindi and Telugu remakes of the 1973 super hit film ‘Zanjeer’.

Priyanka had flown out to Hyderabad to launch the ‘Toofan’ trailer amidst much pomp and fanfare. Looking stunning in a light blue dress, little did Priyanka know that her appearance would be mired in controversy.

‘Zanjeer 2.0’ and the simultaneously shot Telugu version, ‘Toofan’ saw the Bombay High Court issuing notices against the makers of the new versions. Merely hours after the stars of the Telugu version launched the trailer with Priyanka Chopra, the Bombay HC issued a notice for the trailer to be withdrawn.

Not only the Telugu, but the Hindi version has also come under the HC’s scanner, as per complaint to the High Court by late Prakash Mehra’s sons Sumeet and Puneet Mehra, who have filed a case against their brother Amit Mehra for non-payment of dues towards his purchase of the remake rights.

Reportedly, Amit purchased the remake rights from his brother Sumeet and Puneet, but is facing their ire for missing payments running into crores on the deal. This led to Sumeet and Puneet terminating the contract for sale, and thus the HC’s verdict against the film remake.

Reveals a source: “The Telugu trailer was supposed to be launched on March 27, on Ram Charan’s birthday. Amit suddenly changed his mind. Sumeet and Puneet acted fast, which is why the order was passed in a short time.”

However, a slight confusion prevails over the order by HC: Amit’s lawyer S U Kamdar says, “I don’t think the High Court Order prohibits the Telugu trailer, it’s for the further trailers in Hindi.”
