Reliance picks up satellite, home video rights of films

MUMBAI: Reliance Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Group’s (R-ADAG) broadcasting and home entertainment arms – Reliance BIG Broadcasting and BIG Music and Home Entertainment have acquired various rights of many old Hindi films.

R-ADAG plans to launch its Hindi movie channel this year and these movies will be shown on the channel. The company also acquired rights for its home video division BIG Music and Home Entertainment and video rental service BigFlicks. Reliance’s DTH platform is also slated to launch.

Reliance BIG Broadcasting and Reliance BIG Entertainment have acquired home video rights for India, Nepal and Bhutan of films from from Lucky Studios starting from November 2008.

The company has also acquired satellite, DTH, IPTV, PPV, VOD, broadband, Internet, Pay TV, Mobile Picture Tones, Video tones, Video music messaging, handset logos, wallpapers, screensavers, full song downloads, mobile TV, mobile karaoke rights for entire world of these films.

The films are Taj Mahal starring Pradeep Kumar and Reena Roy; Haath Ki Safai starring Vinod Khanna, Hema, Randhir; Anjane Mein starring Rishi Kapoor, Neetu Singh, Ranjit and Asha Sachdev; Chitralekha starring Ashok Kumar, Pradeep, Meena Kumari; Man Ki Ankhen and Naya Raaste starring Jeetendra, Asha Parekh and Balraj Sahni; Afsana starring Ashok Kumar, Padmini, Pradeep Kumar; Vikram Vetal starring Vikram Gokhale, Anjana, Satish Shah; Inspector starring Ashok Kumar, Pran, Geeta Bali; Ghar Sansar starring Balraj Sahni; Dost Garibon Ka starring Govinda, Neelam, Sumeet Saigal; Ek Din Bahu Ka starring Suresh Oberoi, Vijay, Swapna; Rafoo Chakkar starring Rishi Kapoor, Neetu Singh, Madan; Laparwah starring Mithun, Ranjeeta; Dulhan starring Raj Kumar, Nirupama Roy; Pehli Raat starring Rehman, Nimmi, Sorab Mody and Johny Walker

On the other hand, BIG Music and Home Entertainment has acquired home video rights of films for India, Nepal and Bhutan from Reasonable Advertising. These are Anuradha Films’ Afsana Pyar Ka starring Aamir Khan, Neelam and Hamari Bahu Alka starring starring Rakesh Roshan, Bindya Goswami; Jyoti Arts Productions’ Agnichakra starring Govinda, Naseeruddin Shah.

Beginning March 2009, the company has acquired rights of films from RK Duggal Studios. These are Katha starring Naseeruddin Shah, Farooq Sheikh, Deepti Naval; Rajnigandha starring Amol Palekar, Vidya Sinha, Dinesh Thakur; Shatranj Ke Khilladii starring Sanjeev Kumar, Shabana Azmi, Sayeed Jaffrey, Victor Banerjee, Amjad Khan, Farooq Sheikh.

Beginning with immediate effect, rights have also been acquired to Paapi Devta starring Dharmendra, Madhuri Dixit, Jeetendra, Jaya Prada, Amrish Puri,; Navra Majha Parmeshwar starring Mohan Joshi, Laxmikant Berde, Sanjeevani, Ranjeet.

BIG Music and Home Entertainment has acquired the sole and exclusive home video rights to exploit the films or parts thereof including audio-visual song sequences through video cassettes (VHS), VCD, DVD, Blu-Ray Disc and / or any other like device now known or to be developed in the future.

Rights have also been acquired for video rental, video parlours, exhibition at public places and / or any other commercials rights associated with the home video rights of the film.
