MUMBAI: Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan will undergo shoulder surgery today in a city hospital. The superstar actor has been suffering from excruciating pain in his shoulder, which worsened due to the heavy-duty action sequences he performed during shooting Rohit Shetty’s ‘Chennai Express’.

The injury-prone superstar will go under the knife today, to correct his shoulder injury. He has chosen Mumbai’s Lilavati hospital over undergoing the surgery in London, as was originally planned. Shah Rukh Khan was avoiding surgery due to his hectic shooting schedules, and the ongoing IPL season, for which he travelled extensively with his team, Kolkata Knight Riders.

Sources say the injury worsened due to neglect.

Reveals an insider source, “He has a muscle tear, which is caused when the bone spurs up. It gets aggravated when he does action and dance sequences due to pressure. SRK has been shooting for a lot of high-octane action sequences for ‘Chennai Express’ which has worsened his condition. His left shoulder is already weak as he had a minimally invasive surgery at the Breach Candy Hospital a couple of years ago. Only his family and close group of friends know about the surgery today. Initially he was to go to London but then he decided against it as it would mean wasting a lot of time that he doesn’t have. He will be at the hospital for a couple of days and then will recuperate at home for a month.”

Shah Rukh, of course, is no stranger to injury. In his nearly two-decade long career in Bollywood, the energetic actor has suffered many a muscle pull, back injury, knee injury. This will be SRK’s eighth surgery. He had previously been treated for injuries sustained in 2010, while he was shooting for his home production, ‘Ra.One’.

SRK also performed last month for an awards ceremony in Canada, despite being injured. He had then said, “It is a new injury. The old one is fine but for this one I may have to go for a surgery later. I have to perform so it is a bit of a drag but I will try to avoid the right hand movement during the dance as much as I can.”
