Shuddhi Casting Hits Another Roadblock: Aamir Khan Rejects Script Again

Amir Khan Main coverWe were among the first to report that Karan Johar was considering Aamir Khan as a replacement, for the ambitious period drama Shuddhi, which will be produced under his banner, Dharma Productions. (SEE STORY HERE: )

And now, buzz in the industry is that Aamir Khan has again rejected the script, saying it didn’t “work for him”. Said a source, confirming the development: “The first time around, he (Aamir Khan) had asked Karan to give him some time to go through the script. He then turned it down saying that the script didn’t work for him. Now has has again politely refused to do the film.”

The source added that Aamir was being considered after Hrithik walked out, and reportedly before Ranveer Singh was approached. “Apparently, the film’s script was sent to Aamir after Hrithik opted out of the project,” said the insider.

“Back then, Aamir was not interested in the film and Karan Johar then offered the film to Ranveer Singh. With Ranveer declining the offer, he chose to take up Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s film, Bajirao Mastani. KJo apparently decided to again offer the film to Aamir Khan.”

With these musical chairs going on in Bollywood, it is no wonder that casting for Shuddhi has not yet been finalised. With so many names in the fray, and with big names dropping out like hot potatoes, one wonders how Shuddhi will be able to keep its date with Christmas 2015.

Aamir Khan’s spokesperson has declined to confirm or deny whether the actor has been approached for Shuddhi.

Meanwhile a little birdie has also let slip the real reason for Hrithik Roshan opting out of the project. Buzz was that Hrithik’s health issues and personal life played impediment in his signing on the dotted line, but the real reason, according to strong industry buzz, is that Hrithik was unhappy with the profit share he was being offered for Shuddhi.

Reportedly, Hrithik Roshan wanted a forty percent stake in the profits of the film, but producer Karan Johar flatly refused, which led to the handsome, light-eyed superstar walking out of the project.

Neither the Johar camp nor the Roshan camp have confirmed this story, though.
