MUMBAI: After almost seven weeks of no fresh movie play, Indian multiplex chains will screen a new movie that is substantially big in size and has the capacity to draw crowds.
Sony Pictures Releasing of India is all set to release the Tom Hanks-starrer Angels & Demons in multiplexes and single screens in India on 29 May.
It may be recalled that due to the impasse between multiplexes and Hindi film producers and distributors, there have not been any fresh movies in cinemas since 4 April. Until now Hollywood studios in India have also not been releasing their movies.
Angels & Demons will be released in four languages – English, Hindi, Tamil and Telugu with approximately 250 prints. Speaking exclusively to Businessofcinema.com, Sony Pictures Releasing of India managing director Kercy Daruwala says, “We are open for all the screens, the multiplexes as well as single screens. We have got nothing to do with the strike.”
Directed by Ron Howard and produced by Brian Grazer & John Calley Angels & Demons is the prequel to The Da Vinci Code and is based upon the bestselling novel by Dan Brown.
According to Daruwala, Terminator Salvation will be the next release, which Sony plans to release with approximately 400 prints.
