The foreign locales made famous in Yashraj Films are out. India’s hinterland is in! And now with ‘Gori Tere Pyaar Mein’, Dharma Productions, which usually sets their films in New York and Las Vegas, seem to be going rural as well .

‘Gori Tere Pyaar Mein’, stars Imran Khan and Kareena Kapoor Khan, a repetition of their pairing from Dharma Productions’ ‘Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu’. It is directed by Punit Malhotra, who last made ‘I Hate Luv Storys’.

The trailer starts off with Imran Khan introducing his character – the ultimate aashiq and the family’s kala dhabba. He immediately falls in love with Kareena Kapoor Khan’s character, a social worker. They meet, they talk, they dance to songs, they fall in love, but soon fight over issues that may seem small to us but are important to the diametrically opposite couple.

Kareena Kapoor Khan then leaves Imran Khan and runs off to a village where the latter runs off to get her back to the city. His travails in the village, where Kareena Kapoor Khan challenges him to stay for ten days, while trying to woo her at the same time, forms the crux of ‘Gori Tere Pyaar Mein’.

Recently, we saw ‘Shuddh Desi Romance’ taking Yashraj Films to the small-town, and now ‘Gori Tere Pyaar Mein’ seems to do that for Dharma Productions. The setting is very rural: a tapri, a bridge over a river that looks that it could collapse anytime, cowdung all over the village. Kareena Kapoor Khan’s character has learned to deal with all this, while Imran Khan’s character faces a lot of problems, including being harassed by the men of the village.

The songs, on the other hand, seems very upbeat and modern, being Bollywood enough. The glances of the dance numbers are very Dharma (music by Vishal-Shekhar), and that does not look like it will change anytime soon.

‘Gori Tere Pyaar Mein’ releases on 22 November.
