Two Akshay Kumar films in UK Top 5

MUMBAI: Of his four releases in 2007, Akshay Kumar has two releases in the UK Top 5 namely Welcome and Namastey London, with the former outdoing the latter to emerge as his highest in 2007.

His other two releases of last year – Heyy Babyy and Bhool Bhulaiyaa were further down in the list.

Says Akshay Kumar, “My overseas fans and well-wishers have been extremely kind and supportive of my work, more so from the UK. With four hits, I couldn’t have asked for a better 2007, with my final release (Welcome) emerging as my biggest.”

Welcome is still running in theatres in the fourth week. In the UK and Ireland the film has grossed about £886,000 making it the second highest box-office grosser in this territory in 2007. Welcome was released with 51 prints in the UK and Ireland by Indian Films-Studio 18.

Commenting on the performance of Welcome in the UK and Ireland, Studio 18 Head of UK and Europe Tanuj Garg said, “Akshay’s had his highest UK grosser of 2007 with Welcome. With the film still going strong in cinemas, Welcome is on its way to becoming the highest ever UK grosser of Akshay’s career and that’s a tall achievement.”

Now in its fourth week, Welcome is running with 15 prints.
