Udta Punjab starring Shahid Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, Kareena Kapoor Khan and Diljit Dosanjh went on floors recently in Amritsar, Punjab. The film produced by Phantom Films has now been acquired by Ekta Kapoor’sBalaji Motion Pictures who came onboard to support the film.

According to previous reports, the production house co-producing the film had backed out of the project leaving Anurag Kashyap’s Phantom Films as the sole producer. Now with Balaji Motion Pictures acquiring the rights, the film will proceed on full swing. Confirming the same, Tanveer Bookwala, CEO of Balaji Motion Pictures said, “Yes we have acquired the rights of Udta Punjab and an announcement will be made on the matter soon.”
Inside details of the deal have been kept under the covers by both the production houses. However if sources are to be believed the rights have been transferred for a price of Rs. 50 Crores including all the satellite rights. Earlier it was reported that remuneration of actors Shahid, Alia andKareena have been kept on hold. With Balaji Pictures now coming onboard the problem might soon be solved.

Udta Punjab is a story based on the drug abuse problem that has affected the youth of Punjab. Directed by Abhishek Chaubey, the thriller will be having a drug mafia, and the characters of the film will be revolving around the storyline of drug abuse amongst the youth. Starring Alia Bhatt, Shahid Kapoor, Kareena Kapoor Khan and Diljit Dosanj in the main roles the film is set to come out next year.
