MUMBAI: Vashu Bhagnani’s Kal Kissne Dekha will not hit single screens on 29 May as was being touted earlier across publicity material.
The movie has been pushed forward by two weeks as of now and will tentatively release sometime in June. However, the final release date has not yet been decided upon.
Incidentally, the movie is being co-produced by BIG Pictures, which also runs its BIG Cinemas chain of multiplexes. According to sources, Bhagnani was being asked by the co-producers to release the movie in their own chain along with the single screens on 29 May. However, doing that would have meant breaking the producers’ unity. Hence Bhagnani has decided to postpone the release of the film.
When talks failed between producers – distributors and multiplexes at the last meeting that was held on 18 May, producers decided to release movies in single screens. Bhagnani’s film has been ready since long with substantial promotions and hence was to be the first to hit theatres. The movie was first slated to hit theatres on 3 April but has been delayed ever since due to the standoff.
BIG Pictures and Bhagnani issued a statement, which informed about the postponement of the film’s release. The note stated that based on discussion, the belief is that producers, distributors and multiplexes will come to a compromise soon, which will enable the film to have reach the widest possible audience.
As was earlier reported by Businessofcinema.com, Bhagnani along with the cast and crew of the film were on a six city musical tour to promote the film last week. The movie marks the debut of Bhagnani’s son Jackky and hence is an important milestone for him on a personal level too.
