Kareena Kapoor Khan is an actress par excellence. Not one to rest complacently on her previous laurels, she strives to push the envelope with every film she does.

Her next release, with the third Khan in the holy Khan Trinity, Mr. Perfection Aamir himself, is Talaash. The film also stars Rani Mukerji, and Nawazzudin Siddique (of Gangs of Wasseypur fame), in pivotal roles. Shot in Mumbai, Pondicherry and London, the story has been a closely guarded secret, as is customary to most big-ticket films these days, especially if it stars a perfectionist and marketing genius like Aamir Khan.

According to Industry speculation though, it is almost evident that Rani plays Aamir’s wife, named Sunaina, and Kareena plays an escort called Rosy. Rumours also hint at the film revolving around the sensational Aarushi murder case.

The latest song to be released from the film, “Muskaanein Jhooti Hai”, portrays Kareena dancing at a nightclub, looking absolutely stunning in a long, burgundy ball gown replete with a bright, burgundy shade of lipstick to match. She sings about smiles being untrue, or of people choosing to hide their emotions behind false smiles. She is seen playing the seductress with oomph and élan, trying to woo Aamir’s character in the song, that of a policeman.

Aamir is seen in a unique, mustachioed avatar, and looks dour and grim throughout the video. Rani Mukerji is also seen, seated at the same table as Aamir. The feel of the song is retro, like a throwback to the era of songstresses and dancing girls in nightclubs, circa the 1950’s and 1960’s. (Think: Rekha, looking like a modern courtesan, crooning “Kaisi Paheli Hai Yeh Zindegani”, in Parineeta).

The retro-jazz elements perfectly complement the old-world charm of the set, and the smooth vocals of the singer Suman Sridhar. The music of Talaash was launched on Thursday.

Aamir Khan, Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani will launch the music. For the event, the ambience of a red-light area, which has a crucial part in the movie, would be re-created. It will be held in a suburban hotel. The song is composed by Ram Sampath, written by Javed Akhtar and sung by Suman Sridhar. The film is directed by Reema Kagti, and is a crime thriller.

This will be Kareena’s first release post her big fat desi-Bollywood wedding to the Nawab of Pataudi, Saif Ali Khan.
