Welcomes rakes in Rs 571 mn in 1st week

MUMBAI: Last week’s movie release Welcome has grossed Rs 571.8 million (Rs 57.18 crores) worldwide in its opening week.


The Indian Film Company acquired the worldwide distribution rights for the film in November 2007. The movie released worldwide on 21 December.


In its opening week in India Welcome grossed Rs 500 million (£6.4 million) on 900 prints as reported by the company.


In the UK, the film grossed Rs 42.8 million (£550,000)  in its opening week from 40 theatres, making it into the UK top 10 charts and in North America the film grossed Rs 29 million (£371,000) from 60 theatres in its opening week. Thus the first week collections of the movie stand at Rs 571.8 million (Rs 57.18 crores).


Indian Investment Adviser CEO Sandeep Bhargava said, “We are very pleased that Welcome has done so well in its first week, and look forward to it continuing to break further records, – it is one of several films we have invested in and which we believe have the potential to deliver significant returns to our shareholders.”
