Businessofcinema recently reported (Read report here) that the release of the much-anticipated ‘Satyagraha’ has been pushed again. The film after much deferment is now slated for a 30 August release.

When we contacted Prakash Jha, the filmmaker revealed the reason behind the delay. Said Jha, “August is a very crowded month with three big movies releasing back to back. We have a two week clear window now for Satyagraha and all three much awaited movies in August will get their due breathing space.”

August will see as many as four big films releasing. It begins with Shah Rukh Khan’s ‘Chennai Express’ (8 August), ‘Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai Dobara’ (15 August), ‘Kaanchi’ (15 August) directed by Subhash Ghai and the last in the line is ‘Satyagraha’ (30 August) directed by Prakash Jha.  (Read More: August Fireworks’)

Interestingly, UTV Motion Pictures is associated with two of the four films releasing. While it is distributing ‘Chennai Express’, UTV is producing ‘Satyagraha’ along with Prakash Jha.

‘Satyagraha’s delayed release works as a winning strategy to accommodate both the films from the banner and give a clear run to each, post release . Now both ‘Chennai Express’ and ‘Satyagraha’ have a good window to get the cash registers ringing.

Both these films with their tremendous star power – Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone backing Chennai Express’ and Amitabh Bachchan as well as Kareena Kapoor in ‘Satyagraha’ will thus fairly get their due.

Though one cannot ignore the heavyweight Akshay Kumar starrer ‘Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai Dobara’ from Balaji Motion Pictures releasing bang in between UTV’s two big releases.

This August has certainly gotten more interesting.
