Lata Mangeshkar Conferred The First Yash Chopra Memorial Award

MUMBAI: Legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar also called the ‘Nightingale of India’ has been conferred ‘The First Yash Chopra Memorial Award’ for her contribution to Hindi Cinema.

Information and Broadcasting Minster, Manish Tewari presented ‘The Yash Chopra Memorial Award’ to Lata Mangeshkar. Even though Lata Mangeshkar was un-well from the past three days, she made it a point to attend the function and accept the honour.

“I have fever and doctors have asked to take rest and not go out, but I had to come here for Yash Ji as he was special and close to my heart and not for the award or for the ten lacs,” said the songstress at the function.

Yash Chopra’s wife Pamela Chopra, Rani Mukerji, Sri Devi, Boney Kapoor, Anil Kapoor, Poonam Dhillon, Hema Malini, Jeetendra, Simi Gerewal, Anushka Sharma and Madhoo were also present at the function.

Lata Mangeshkar has also been featured in the ‘Guinness Book of World Records’ from 1974 to 1991 for having made the most recordings in the world. The claim was that she had recorded approximately twenty five thousand solo, duet, and chorus backed songs in twenty Indian languages between the years 1948 to 1974.
