Ajay Devgn Speaks Up On Tannishtha Chaterjee Racism Row

When this Parched actress along with her team came on Comedy Nights Bachao Taaza, a Colors TV’s show, Tannishtha Chatterjee was looking forward to some fun and humor in form of roast which the format of this show. In a drastic turn of events, she along with her co-artists walked out of the show as she was constantly made fun of only to her skin color.

In an open letter to Colors from her Facebook account, she wrote a heartfelt letter of how it is insensitive and in bad humor that the show went forward being downright racist. After making her dissatisfaction public, Colors promptly apologized to the 35-year-old actress.

The producer of Parched, Ajay Devgn came in full support of Tannishtha and said that the humor has to have a limit as it can go overboard. He further said that everyone has a sense of humor and can accept a joke on oneself but there has to be a hard line drawn and for that the mindset needs to be changed first.

The Shivaay actor also blamed it on the mentality of the Indian people – the country with the fairness cream ads and notions of being fair equals to being beautiful. Stressing on it being a mindset problem of Indians, Devgn also noted how the Indians treat waiters in their own country so dismissively and waiters in foreign countries are treated so differently by those same people. He concludes that all the problems take root from the Indian mentality.

While this controversy has sparked the much-needed debate in this fairness obsessed country, let’s hope it goes it the right direction.
