The overseas collection of Rangoon is not better than Indian collection.
Director Vishal Bhardwaj’s much-talked about period drama Rangoon starring Shahid Kapoor, Kangana Ranaut, and Saif Ali Khan, released on Friday, February 24. The film has been performing below expectations at the Box Office since day 1. The film opened to a poor start and has continued with the same trend at domestic as well as overseas market.
At the domestic box office, Rangoon opened on a rather dull note and has collected on Rs 15 crore nett approx on 4 days. Well, the overseas collection of the film is also not better than Indian collection.
Rangoon collected £55,000 in UK, $335,000 in US/Canada, $425,000 in Gulf, and A$65,000 in Australia. The overseas collections of Rangoon are lower than Shahid Kapoor starrer Kaminey and Haider, which had grossed $1.68m and $1.09m respectively over the first weekend.
The collections of the film have been a disaster and one of the reasons can also be due to the piracy. Many illegal sites are offering free download and streaming of Rangoon, which worsens the situation.
The Vishal Bhardwaj directorial is a triangle love story set against the backdrop of World War II. Rangoon has opened to approximately 1800 screens across the India and the film has received mixed reviews from the film critics as well as from the audience. Though the film is being heard and talked about everywhere, Vishal Bhardwaj’s Rangoon could not create wonders at the Box Office. Another debacle?
